What is a car warranty?
A car warranty is designed to offer you protection in case something goes wrong with your car.
A warranty may be offered by a car dealer as a short term guarantee on the car you buy, for example 30 days cover.
It can also be something you pay for as an extra, offering you cover for a longer period of time (one or more years). This kind of warranty is usually backed by an insurance company.
Warranties tend to cover mechanical or electrical failure and should cover the cost of unforeseen repairs but they won’t pay the cost of wear and tear or accidental damage. They may well have limits on the value or number of claims you can make during the period of cover.
A warranty can be useful and give you some peace of mind, but be sure to make sure you know what is and isn’t covered when you buy one.
